Seawater desalination pre-treatment

EME’s Seawater desalination pre-treatment business involves a series of water treatments that removes dissolution including salinity from seawater and produces high purity drinking water, domestic water and industrial water. 

            Seawater desalination methods include MSF (multistage flash evaporation) and RO (reverse osmotic membrane); presently, the RO method is more efficient and economical and is increasing its market share compared to MSF.

            The RO method is considered a future growth market. The core technology of the RO method for seawater desalination is the pre-treatment technology. Hansol EME’s pre-treatment technology is adapted with DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation), DMF (Dual Media Filter) and HRP (High Rate Plate).

            Seawater desalination pre-treatment DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation)

DAF is technology and equipment that removes polluted substances by adhering tiny bubbles to floating substances in the water that have lower specific gravity than water, and then releasing the air to let it float to the surface of water. The principle of generating tiny bubble is to use its features of air solubility against water. Air and water are mixed inside a highly pressurized tank and then air is dissolved into water at supersaturated state. Then pressurized water is sprayed into the water at atmospheric pressure, and tiny bubbles are formed with supersaturated stated air and floated onto the water’s surface.

Suspended matter, grease and oil are effectively removed by DAF. By using it in combination with various filters with DAF, over 60% of BOD/COD elements are removed. 80~90% of BOD elements can be removed by condensation caused by chemicals and DAF.

Seawater desalination pre-treatment DMF(Dual Media Filter)

This is a type of apparatus with two filters to filter water. This means it filters fine particles inside water by means of a filter medium such as sand or anthracite. Gravity type and pressure filtration type are used for purifying water.

Cleaning remaining substances is the most important factor in determining the efficiency of filters. A reverse washing filter process is necessary to remove solid material collected by the filter during the filtering process; this can be achieved by injecting a mixture of water or air toward the upstream.

DMF (SIB Block) is a porous filter type of sub-collection device that enables even collection of filtered water as well as the equal distribution of water and air during reverse washing while water and air can be used independently or together. Air that was distributed evenly throughout the floor of the filter float causes friction among the remaining substances, which was attached to solid material and simultaneously backwashing water mixed with air makes solid material detaches from remaining filters.

Surface relief grating induces recovery water to rotate at upper part of sub-collection device after was diverted by reversing air and actively avoid collision against reverse washing air and prevent recovery water from entering sub-collection device.

HRP inclined board sedimentation basin is a sedimentation system with special structure that provides reliable solids-liquid separation efficiency in water purification, sewage and industrial waste water process. It is designed to optimize solids-liquid separation and sedimentation effect in small scale of site area and assembled with ABS and STS materials. This system is equipped with self-washing capacity for easy management and maintenance.

Inclined board sedimentation basin is excellent in terms of its physical flexibility. This is ideal for enhancing and improving a sedimentation basin to increase its capacity. In general, the inclined board is installed at a 55-degree angle, but when there is an extremely high load of solid material, the inclined board is installed at a 60-degree angle.

Independent solid-liquid separation type

The inclined board sedimentation basin is designed for optimized sedimentation and solid-liquid separation by ensuring the best efficiency through a computer simulation of hydrodynamic behavior. This is manufactured to ensure that any water behavior inducing short circuiting or refloating of sludge is controlled, so that water flows on upper part and floc is settled down to bottom.
